Thank you to the fairly new blogger on the block... I heart Blog for posting about the Cupcake Couture wooden camera brooch.  Love knowing where my products end up ones they leave the stall table.

Let's get hyped up...with a GIVEAWAY

Saturday is I heart Market day!  Quite an exciting time in my life and that of fellow 'marketeers'.  Hard work, late nights and the excitement of putting your product out into the world is just some of what we will face this week...coupled with last minute brainwaves and even a few nerves thrown in.  Come and see our work on Saturday at the Hellenic Hall in Durban.  We love what we do, but we need you to come and support us.  You don't need to buy anything, but please come and say hi.  Friendly faces and smiles can make our day!

So...let's get HYPED up for I heart Market.  This week I will be hosting some fun giveaways leading up to Saturday.  You can win some pretty things and make sure that we enjoy the success of a full and fruitful market day by spreading the word!

DIY: Fashion Must Have

A Statement Necklace

I often see amazing DIY posts on blogs, but never really try them or put the good ideas to use.  It was with great joy that I discovered this DIY via 100 Layer Cake for The Broke Ass Bride.

All you need is:

Rope Cord:
I found a huge role of it for about R25 at a curtaining / upholstery shop.

Vintage Brooches:
You might already have a couple of these.  You can also scour markets, vintage shops or Etsy.  I find that Eclectic has the best range in Durban at good prices.

You can take a look for a clasp mechanism at a bead or craft shop.  I knotted the roping and made sure it was long enough to make a bow.  This allows for an adjustable length so that you can wear it shorter with a blouse or slightly longer over a plain tee.

The last step is to arrange and pin the brooches on the roping.  It helps to try it on as you go to make sure you are getting the balance right.

Voila!  A new look for next to nothing!

My City

Eclectic is a gem of a shop in Gordon Road, Durban.  They have some interesting and quirky decor items in stock at the moment.  Love browsing around this little shop as there are always hidden treasures.

A little mention

I am very pleased to report that Cupcake Couture got a little mention in the Elle Hip City Guide.  As you know Cupcake Couture is stocked at Mooi (be sure to check out their blog) which was listed in the shopping section of the Durban pages.  I have posted a snippet below, but if you would like to read more and see inside the guide then you can click here.
Every small mention means something to me as it proves that the hours poured into Cupcake Couture are worth it.  What makes it even more worth it is the support I get from all of you out there.  Thank you!

The Package Project - Update

I have just updated The Package Project blog and posted details of the Flickr group that you can join if you have signed up and are participating in the project.

I hope your swapping is going well!

I heart Market

Last week was the June I heart Market.  It was also the first market that I have participated in since March so I was overjoyed to be there and had so much fun.

There were a few new products on the table and a few old favourites.  Thank you to all who came to say hello and supported Cupcake Couture on the day!

New headband designs

Here are a few new headbands that I made recently.  Vintage buttons, ditsy print fabric, pearls and vintage lace are only a few of the elements that I incorporated.  These headbands take quite some time to make as most of the details are sewn on by hand.  I do love making them though.

You just have to love them...

Take a look at this sneak peek from my friend Casey's wedding!  I stole these from the Love made me do it blog.  Once I see some more pics I will be doing a lovely post featuring some more details about the wedding for which I made some ribbon corsages.  Such a lovely couple!

The Cupcake Competition

Last weekend the I heart Market team hosted a cupcake competition at The Food Market.  I sponsored a little prize as well as a ribbon corsage for the winner to wear.  Amazing talent out there - well done to all who entered.

An open mind:
The importance of pretty shoes is very underrated.  They can transform and outfit and make you feel on top of the world again.  Busy days at my day job means that I prefer wearing flats, but occasionally a good pair of heels makes the day brighter!  I added these heels to our shoe buy at my day job and initially they didn't appeal to me at all.  I gave them another chance though when I thought of changing the plain black laces.  Reinvented shoes which can now match whatever outfit I need them for.  Such a steal as they were marked down to  R79.99!
Sometimes you just need to have an open mind to different fashion ideas.  Make this your 'fashion must have' and your wardrobe might just have some new appeal without spending too much!
Have you personalised something in your wardrobe lately?  I would love to hear about it so do share!
