A selection of creative sessions to help you build your business and brand.

In June I launched The Business Sessions, a set of exclusively designed consulting sessions and weekly classes and I am ever so happy with how the introduction and subsequent sessions have gone. It has not only inspired new and existing clients, but been a very firm confirmation for me of why I LOVE my job. Hosting entrepreneurs in my office and via Skype, open discussion, teaching and guiding them and then seeing them grasp and understand concepts is a beautiful thing to witness.

For July and August the sessions continue and are open to a new group of students. I have simplified the process slightly in order to make it as clear as possible how it all works.

- Type of Sessions -

One on One: When you need a bit of extra TLC.
Fully focused on your business, process and personal requirements.
Booked on a day and date that suits your individual schedule as opposed to fitting in with the timetable. You learn at a pace that suits you.
These are held in person in Durban or via Skype or Facetime for those who aren't based here.
R1200 for three sessions.

Small Group Classes in Durban: When you want to connect with like-minded business owners.
A group of students (no more than three) with a more general business focus.
You will receive individual assistance too, but the group setting allows for further learning from the experience of fellow students and is a great networking opportunity.
The classes are once a week for three consecutive weeks in a row / see timetable.
Each week follows on from the previous with a clear plan and homework to keep the momentum. The timetable (scroll down) outlines the dates and times at which the group classes run.
R900 for three sessions.

- Session Info -

As you work through the sessions or classes depending on whether you select one on one or group classes, you will receive practical examples and insight that you can implement within your own life and business. Each session is taught by me, personally, no pre-recorded messages, no videos... the real life person version. It ensures you can ask questions directly and we can tackle your individual requirements. If your schedule doesn't allow for you to attend weekly sessions, there is the option to have one on one mentorship to suit your schedule and pace.

- You can select from the following -

- Social Media Content Creation -

Tell your story, grow your brand, showcase your business.

You can attend either in the group class as per timetable or book these sessions one on one to suit your unique schedule.

Always wondering what to say online, how to say it and when? Then these are the sessions for you.
A focused set of three sessions to guide you through the process of creating and writing purposeful content to market your business and creatively build your brand. On offer are focused steps that you can personally implement and test out to see results in action.

"Meaningful content creation is a personal passion of mine. I'm fortunate to have worked on some large scale projects that yielded great success for locally based businesses, both within the creative and corporate spheres."

Each set of sessions includes a selection of tools to get you inspired, time for Q&A and measurable steps and actions to implement from day one. Not sure if this is the course for you - let's chat.

- Developing a Comprehensive Brand Experience -

You can attend either in the group class as per timetable or book these sessions one on one to suit your unique schedule.

Don't you love that feeling in your heart when you leave your favourite shop, with a prettily wrapped parcel after having received outstanding service? It's time to create that "happy feeling" for your very own customers.

"Our brands have the opportunity to change people's lives in a beautiful, positive and happy way. Who wouldn't want to share that valuable type of sincere joy through their business?"

A focused set of three sessions to guide you through the process of creating your own comprehensive brand experience. Add value to your customers through an authentic and connected offering and ensure it lines up with the mission of your brand.

Each set of sessions includes a selection of tools to get you inspired, time for Q&A and measurable steps and actions to implement from day one.

- Planning for Creative Business -

Developing a plan that suits your business and lifestyle.

You can attend either in the group class as per timetable or book these sessions one on one to suit your unique schedule.

We often hear how consistency is key both online and in achieving our goals. But, first you need to know what you are creating consistency towards. It's time to shape a plan that creates that direction for both your life and business.
A focused set of three sessions to guide you through the process of understanding what you want to become known for within your industry and creating a plan around it that respects your lifestyle and values. We tackle some of the tough elements like setting boundaries, thinking about the future and what will essentially make you a happier and therefore more successful business owner and all round human.

Each set of sessions includes a selection of tools to get you inspired, time for Q&A and measurable steps and actions to implement from day one.

- Workshop: Style your Brand for Social Media -

Currently Durban Only

Beautiful photos are everywhere we look, but what about your own images that represent your brand? It's easy to use stock imagery, but how about creating and styling a library of images that truly represents your business and in turn creating a brand presence. This half day workshop will take you through the steps to styling your own images that are in line with the vision you are aiming to create. From the practical to the pretty we will work on examples and actionable steps.

"I have lectured on styling at a tertiary level and styled images for a host of local brands with great success for both print and digital. It's time to be inspired, hone your own eye for composition and showcase your brand in style!"

Each workshop includes a selection of tools to get you inspired, time for Q&A and measurable steps and actions to implement immediately.

The Pink Party: Durban

*Update: Read all about the Durban Pink Party here.

Pink! Party! Um... yes please! I am delighted to be joining Anzel and a host of lovely local creatives this week for The Pink Party. It makes me so happy when our city is visited by awesome businesses and in this case Anzel of White Kite Studio will be sharing her knowledge and beautiful workshop with us!
I will be joining the workshop on Day Two as an invited guest to share more about "Creating a Brand Experience". I am so honoured to be taking part and sharing my insights on one of my FAVOURITE subjects.

SO WHAT IS THE PINK PARTY AND WHO IS IT FOR?

The Pink Party is a place for creative entrepreneurs to network, learn and get inspired. It’s an intensive 3 day workshop designed to get you focused, motivated and armed with a plan to take your brand from sad to rad in no time! Whether you’re just starting out or already have a brand, I invite you to spend three days with me and get yourself on the road to beautifully branded success and making more money doing what you love.

Branding small creative businesses is my absolute passion, and I love being able to share my knowledge and experience with other creatives. You will be learning and connecting with fellow business owners while I inspire you with the power of branding and digital marketing, all in a beautiful environment over some good food and drinks. I’ll show you how to map out your goals and strategies, create an experience for your customers and network, market and brand yourself for success.
See more photos and details here - lots of pretty things to see.

It was lovely to meet Anzel in Cape Town recently - she is ever so graceful. Being able to connect with like-minded business owners who are aiming to help and guide fellow creatives is always a treat.
Her latest addition to her business are the most beautiful planners and I can't wait to add one to my desk and organising. Take a look here.

I will be sure to share a few snaps on Wednesday and what makes it even better is that several of my clients will be attending too and have helped to add a special touch or two to the workshop. Time to (pink) party (corny - I know, but I couldn't resist).

It's with joy and of course an enormous amount of excitement that I announce my first series of Brand Experience Sessions, which I am launching in Cape Town next week. The project has been under wraps, but I can finally unveil it – hooray!

I will be in Cape Town for only a couple of days meeting with key brands and creatives, but I have kept two sessions open for bookings upon today's announcement for those who were not part of the initial list. This new addition to my consulting repertoire takes on a mentor style format with the main focus on confidentiality, style and clear points of action for you to implement within your brand / business.

Next Available Date: Monday - 29th August
Slot One: 11:30am
Slot Two: 3:00pm RESERVED

With my background and experience in luxury fashion, marketing and a blogging career spanning over a nine year period, I feel that a great deal of my work experience has lead me to offering these specialised, professional sessions. To share that knowledge, which encompasses a worldwide perspective through to our own unique local influence brings me great happiness. A honed set of facts, skills and observations both in the creative market and the corporate terrain are brought together in a package that allows for the shared information to take on a discreet, focused and exceptionally detailed delivery to my clients.

I was interviewed by one of the collaborative brands involved to share and showcase the heart, meaning and true value of this new addition to my business profile. When I sat down to  pen my answers it was the ideal time for me to employ mindful reflection. It encouraged me to stay true to what I have set out to do through connecting with brands in person. Our brands have the opportunity to change people's lives in a beautiful, positive and happy way. Who wouldn't want to share that valuable type of sincere joy through their business?

How our brands and businesses impact the world are completely within our control. We can extend a point of connection that speaks straight to the heart of our customers or clients, that magical, unique touch that keeps them coming back. It's a mutual exchange built from the need to serve our fellow humans and business owners, thus allowing them to be positively affected by our services and products.

Further Details of Brand Experience Sessions:

There are only two of these new brand experience sessions available in celebration of the Cape Town launch. Below is a basic outline of the process, but once you are on board I will guide you further and allow you access to the details related to your own unique, specialised session.

Each mentored brand experience session lasts two and a half hours and includes an array of added benefits. Of course I will add a treat or two to spoil and inspire you.

There is an initial exchange of information in the lead up to your session – we shall call it happy, pretty homework. It forms part of our foundation to ensure that your session delivers the best possible results.

The actual session is firmly focused on analysing your creative business, followed by key focus points on the subject matter of offering an exceptional brand experience. From there on we explore how your business can begin to invest in this ideal client connection.

You will also receive key tips on how to further grow your business in other areas and an overview of how to improve your social media.

This session is a fast-track to getting things done and if implemented correctly will certainly yield rewards. Follow-up support will be available along with key referrals. You will also become one of my portfolio client members who receive referrals, support and valuable insight throughout the year.

*UPDATE
This year was my fourth year running the South African party and I am so pleased with the results. Our little, local party was featured on Instagram by Etsy Success and photos from our event were within the top performing photos under the international hash tag. That’s cause for celebration – hooray! I really couldn’t have done it without the wonderful contributing kindness of the sponsors and creatives who helped. You can see some of the photos here.

I will also be doing a blog post or two about the party to share the professional photos in a couple of weeks. There will be a lovely giveaway or two at that time so watch this space.

Checking In

Hello dear readers...
I wanted to check in and give you a few updates. Things are on the go as always in the NvdM office. Consulting session bookings are going wonderfully well, which makes me so happy as it means business owners are empowering themselves to build better brands! I was in Cape Town in March and connected with clients there and I am heading back for a partnership with Decorex at the end of April. I will be sure to share the details with you very soon!

In other news I have now officially been in my office for over a year and how it has changed my business. I think there is a blog post somewhere in there.

I am currently consulting to corporate businesses too which is really interesting. One is a marketing company and the other is an agency. Their work is vastly different, but it is so inspiring to be able to contribute to large campaigns, but in a really creative way.

I have some additional plans for both my brand and office, along with this here little blog. Now... to make the time for it.

If you are missing regular blog posts - can I invite you on over to Instagram in the meantime while the changes take place...

You can follow me here:

nadiavdmescht: Business updates about my brand, the experience I offer clients and things that are part of the consulting element of things.

nvdmpersonal: A personal glance into my life. This shares the moments that are just as the name states - personal. Family, friends, home, husband and anything that touches my heart.

nvdmcreates: I am not crazy in having various accounts - I just really like to keep content very focused and need to respectful to my business and not clutter it up with too much fluff! This is where I get my planning on paper done. It shares a look at my stationery obsession (it's dangerous) and a peep at my Filofax. I have also started a local community so feel free to join - just tag your photos using the relevant hash tags: #filofaxsouthafrica, #plannersouthafrica or #snailmailsouthafrica

Chat soon and even sooner if you want to pop me an email (click here).
Here is a look into my office - my happy (tidy) space which I just love welcoming clients into. It is located in the Station Drive Precinct which is evolving almost overnight. Wonderful for Durban and SA as a whole. Beautiful photo by Eileen of Brightgirl Photography.

Creative Business Workshop: August 2015

Last week I hosted one of my Creative Business Workshops to a room full of eager, creative entrepreneurs. The setup and planning is always one of my favourite aspects, which includes selecting brands to work with and choosing giveaway prizes. There is nothing better than spoiling the attendees with a few useful tools to help them along their entrepreneurial journey.

I snapped a few quick photos on the day to share the behind the scenes with you, along with a few of the special details. This time round I worked with m.studio, Bouwer Flowers and Smith's Bakeshop - mainly.

One of the giveaways included a MollieMakes magazine, a creative business consulting session and a copy of Your Business. Look out for my opinion and quotes in the latest August/September issue.

If you would like to see more photos then search for the hash tag #nvdmlearns on Instagram - several of the lovely ladies shared their experience.

I'll announce the next date asap or feel free to email me in the meantime.

Cape Town - August Trip

Daniel and I headed to Cape Town earlier in August for a bit of fun paired with work. Despite the freezing weather (brrrrrrrr) we had a great time. I was also lucky enough to celebrate my birthday while there and had an awesome day with family and my best friend. On the day we headed to Treat Cafe - a personal favourite (who stock The Velvet Cake Co) and I was so tempted by their cake tasting menu. In the end we settled for lemon meringue which turned out to be incredibly delicious (as expected). In the evening we opted for Tashas in Canal Walk and once again we enjoyed an amazing meal. I was so spoilt by my in-laws and Cape Town friends. It was different to have a birthday away from home, but I feel like I got to celebrate for longer. The exciting part was my gift from Daniel and my friend Claire - which was  Filofax Saffiano all the way from London / I'll be sure to post about it. I also got some lovely Typo stationery, flowers and a treat or two from Rifle Paper Co. In my element!

In between the cake eating I did manage some work and loved meeting several Cape Town creatives for consults. It's really inspiring to be able to work in another city and assist far and wide. I hosted the sessions at Brooker and Waller and just look at that scrumptious scone I snacked on.

In Good Company was a must-visit and I always look forward to popping in to spot what's new. I adore all the ban.do and Kate Spade items (Washi book shown above is from there)! Eeeek - I'm in love! It was with great excitement that I visited the Watershed - the space has such an international feel to it - while still being focused on our wonderful local talent. Over and above that there was so much else that we managed to do, which included a trip to The Village Idiot, A private wine tasting and a visit to my favourite shop - Cape Arts and Crafts (Canal Walk). In terms of a holiday - there wasn't much rest, but who can complain when it's filled with so many exciting things. I really suggest checking out all of the above places - if you haven't already. Cape Town is a treasure trove of local coolness! I shared a few other snaps via my Instagram - on my business account and personal.

Etsy Craft Party 2015 - Photos

I feel as if I can honestly say that this year's Etsy Craft Party has been the best to date! It was a wonderful event and it was all thanks to the incredible people who took part, invested in the night, and sponsored goodies. The party was fueled by getting together, sharing and spreading joy through making, as opposed to a focus on competition between brands. Businesses from far and wide came together in a colourful, yet harmonious mix which meant that the attendees were spoilt! It's an honour to host this annual event and to my knowledge our Durban party is still the only one in South Africa. I don't have enough words to say THANK YOU to the incredible people who made the party possible and showcased how our creative community can collaborate.

Below are lots of photos and that's not even half of them - visit my Facebook page to see even more incredible shots by the talented Eileen of Brightgirl Photography. She out did herself - she captured the night with ease and the result is a vibrant array of shots that are an absolute delight to browse through. The second star of the night was Denise of Freshly Found who hosted the DIY. Her impeccable professionalism, paired with her lovely personal touches allowed crafters to really get creative. The theme set by Etsy was Paper Takes Shape (Kaleidoscope: Paper Taking Shape) and Denise created a craft that each attendee could personalise. The DIY was a paper terrarium or 'Curatorium' as dubbed by Denise. Terry Angelos, artist and all round creative owner of Anthology provided the beautiful venue, which was the perfect setting and backdrop for our festivities. Having the party within Windermere Centre also proved to be a wise choice as they assisted with chairs, ample parking and very helpful car guards. As a bonus Domino's Pizza treated us all to slices of fresh and delicious pizza - straight out the oven as their Windermere branch is upstairs in the centre.

If I could thank each person involved every day for the rest of time... I most certainly would. Of course I had plenty more helping hands including my dear mom Ellen, Nicola from Ask Ashe and Claire (and her mom Moira) who works with me. Without you... it wouldn't have been possible.

The brands and incredible creative businesses that were involved went above and beyond to spoil the attendees. THANK YOU so much - you made the event a true party! The giveaways and goodie bags were amazing thanks to your generosity, which left me in awe and filled my heart with gratitude.

We want to share the goodies with you too - click here to see what was inside the bags and enter to win one.

Here are the incredible brands who took part:
