Delightful Macaroons

30 September 2010

Fashion Week was amazing and ridiculous all in one.  Happy the weekend is here.  I will share some of my photos with you early next week.  First...I need to get to bed, unpack and run some wedding errands.

You can catch a glimpse of some of the Mr Price team's Fashion Week or look at more pretty prints like these macaroons here.
Have a happy weekend!

hello & goodbye

29 September 2010 is the crack of dawn...well actually there is no dawn yet and I am off to SA Fashion Week.  My trip is a short, busy one the day job has called on me to help with Amber Jones' Collection for Mr Price which will be shown before the Elle New Talent Show.  Very exciting!  Two of my dearest blogging friends will be there too so look out for some of our post SAFW posts.

I thought I would share some of my essential packing list...pity these are all the designer options and I have to rely on similiar items in my wardrobe!

Wedding Mood Board

26 September 2010

I created this wedding mood board to tie all our ideas together.  I feel I have now taken stock of the most important elements and can get onto making them real for our day!  It is exactly two months to go!  I hope you enjoy seeing some of the ideas...

I forgot to...

24 September 2010

Somehow I forgot to share these photos of a splendid day!  The September I heart Market was a very festive one as I shared my stall space with the girls from Hello Fox as you might remember.  I also got to go to lunch with my dear friend Danka from Black Butterfly at Freedom Cafe.  The afternoon was finished off with tea and one of the most delightful cakes I have tasted - thanks to Casey of Sibling Mine.  She sent us home with full tummies and a vintage tray cloth each.

Cupcake Couture is taking a small break from I heart Market and gosh* I will miss it.  Wedding plans need to take up my creative time until early December.  I will be sure to share some of the progress with you!  I went to see the wedding venue today to double check on a few things as Monday marks exactly two months until the happy day!

21 September 2010

Durban is really speaking to me at the moment...through the people I meet and the places I visit.  One such place is Last Chance Books in Gordon Road.

You might miss it if you blink, but look again and be sure to visit.  You can almost feel the history that lives within the books housed there...all ready to share their story.

I specifically enjoyed the large insurance plans of Durban where I literally got to see our city mapped out circa 1931.  The pages give great insight into the streets, buildings and places...names like Piccadilly Cinema popped up, amongst others.  What I wouldn't do to roam the city streets in those days.  All I would need is a pretty frock, gloves and a clutch bag for a night out on the town.

Visit Last Chance Books in Gordon Road or view their website for other locations.

I hope you are enjoying your city - wherever that may be.

new work

20 September 2010

With all the fashion week talk that is flying around the world - I must say I wish I was in on all the action.  Living back in London...pounding the pavement enroute to Somerset House...ready to see Giles, Christopher Kane or Erdem.  High heels and even higher hopes for a new season of fresh fashion.

Anyway back to real life here in South Africa.  I did decide to borrow some inspiration from afar and designed this new necklace.  I am working on a range of them which has been both rewarding and challenging.  Imagine me...twelve at night...sewing on buttons...cursing and wishing I could go to bed, but so involved that I have to finish.  Imagine the next day at work...bleary eyed and still cursing due to being too tired.  All worth it in the end...

Inspiration via Garance Doré
I do think that this necklace belongs to me though, as I can't quite part with it.

Have a happy, fashionable week!

Bee Sting & D.H. Lawrence

15 September 2010

Mid-week and the we are halfway to the weekend!  This past weekend was just lovely!  I spent Saturday buying my wedding dress fabric.  There was even enough time to wander off and meet Daniel for brunch at Corner Cafe which was exactly what my soul needed.  We also decided to scour a few antique shops in search of wedding props and decor and despite the fact that we found neither...I did invest in this delightful red tin.  I also got a handful of glass buttons which fitted perfectly inside!  Bliss!  This left the afternoon for relaxation, reading and my takeaway Bee Sting from Corner Cafe.  Time for another weekend...

The D.H. Lawrence Penguin (love the cover) book is from Casey (siblingmine) which she gave me for my birthday...along with the tray cloth.  It came with quite an impressive picnic basket!  What joy to have a friend like her in my life!

Happy Wednesday!

A couple more...

12 September 2010

Once again...thank you so much for the wonderful comments on our engagement shoot photos.
I thought I would share a couple more photos of the details.

Daniel and I styled our home and clothing before the shoot to make sure we knew what and where we wanted to have the photos taken.  The above are small details around our home.
The tray with accessories and the belts was out while I was deciding on what to wear which is never an easy task.  Thanks again to Tyrone for his amazing work.  Next photos!  Don't worry I will post some snippets in between.

Sir Humphrey...

10 September 2010

It is Friday - oh the joy!  So very happy to have some time to relax!  I am buying my wedding dress fabric tomorrow!  Ooooh!  I hope you have lovely plans too!

The Hello Fox girls have drawn the winner for the little owl giveaway (Sir Humphrey).  We each picked our favourite name and then the winner got drawn from that.
Congrats Ingeborg - I hope you can give him a good home!

Little Chef!

09 September 2010

I would like to introduce you to Nicole - a graphic designer, illustrator and creative at heart who has just published her first book (and did I mention she is from Durban).  A recipe book to be exact.
What makes her book so incredible are the characters that live on each page.  Quirky monsters with an appetite to keep you entertained throughout!

Nicole has been kind enough to sponsor one copy of Little Chef for a giveaway.  If you win you are rather lucky and if you don't then you can order one from her by emailing

The whole book has my mouth watering...

08 September 2010

Thank you so very much for your lovely comments on our engagement shoot post.  I appreciate all the kind words!

My photos don't quite compare to Tyrone's shown below, but happy snaps make memories last.  I spotted these treasures on a vintage hunt in our lovely city.  Sweet little finds.
Remember to enter the giveaway being hosted by the Hello Fox girls (ends Friday) and look out for a new giveaway starting on my blog soon.
