Up...

I am counting sleeps...no, no let me rephrase that I am counting waking hours until Thursday as I am currently working around the clock to tick things off my to do list!  My ticket is booked, my case awaits packing and I am ready to bound, leap and jump onto the plane to Cape Town for Design Indaba. This will be my first year going and I am really excited.  Also looking forward to visiting some of my usual CT favs like Vamp (pictured).

So looking forward to sharing some of what I see, experience and taste with you when I get back.  You can also follow me on Twitter for little updates along the way.

Remember:
I am currently hosting two giveaways - one here and one here.
There is still one day to order your pretty parcel deal.  Only a R100 for a corsage & a bunch of goodies.

I won't have a stall at I heart Market on Saturday, but my favourite lads Woodnewz will be their with their chopping boards.
The new Frankie has arrived - email me for a copy.

Facebook Giveaway: I heart Market

I am hosting a very fun giveaway on Facebook!  As you know I adore I heart Market and to celebrate their third birthday the talented duo who run the market (Anna & Saki) opened an online shop where you can buy your favourite poster.  Each design by Dominic Strauss is better than the last and we often wonder how he does it!  Pop over to the Cupcake Couture Facebook page to win your favourite poster!  All you need to do is visit their online shop and tell me which poster is your favourite!  Good luck - they are all amazing.

Pretty Parcel & Corsage SPECIAL

I must say that I really haven't had a lot of time to craft in 2012.  New creations have to sit back while I work on the consulting side of things which has really taken off.  Of course I am truly grateful, but I miss my glue gun!  Right...so I decided to create these lovelies for you...also in an attempt to jump start my ribbon loving, button hoarding self!

There are seven new corsages for sale and you will also see that I am running a 'pretty parcel' special.  The corsages are on special offer for R80 each or you can buy the pretty parcel for only R20 more and get a host of other goodies:

Small round container with vintage buttons inside
A 'make do & mend' badge
Button clip on vintage playing card (clips might differ slightly to one in picture, but they are all pretty - I promise)
Wooden tag
All packaged up in a glassine bag wrapped with a tape measure bow.

To place your order:
Just email me the number of the corsage you would like and also tell me if you are only buying the corsage or going for the pretty parcel deal.
Postage isn't included, but you are looking at about R25 per parcel.  If you order more than one - it will slightly more.

I will only be running this special until next week Tuesday - so don't miss out.

Who's that girl?

A little while ago I did a mini-makeover on the charming Cheralee Lyle's blog and her beautiful illustrations made my job all the more easy (& pretty).  Cheralee is from Cape Town, but is now dazzling it up in Washington.  I love her style and her wardrobe seems to be full of vintage treasures (a girl after my own heart).  Cheralee was featured on Refinery29 yesterday and I thought I just had to share the snaps with you, plus I felt proud of having had the opportunity to work with such a vintage magpie!  Look at her - she looks amazing   You can read her blog to see what her Washington life is like - expect fun nights out, vertiginous heels and a movie star style quality reminiscent of a young Brigitte Bardot.

Resource: Just Something I Made

Today I want to share a really great resource for bloggers and crafters.  The blog Just Something I Made has some awesome crafty posts, but what really makes this a good find is the Freebies section.  Lots of wonderful and FREE downloads or printables to use in your posts, collages and creative projects.  Have fun!

Marvellous Mooi

Just a couple of lovely things spotted at Mooi recently.

Tried & Tested: the wanderlust

ohhellofriend is one of my favourite blogs - Danni is a real creative inspiration!  I have wanted to own a little piece of her magic for a while now and finally ordered something off the wanderlust...one of her online shops!  I was so excited and checked the postbox three times a day in anticipation for the slip to collect it from the post office!  The package was of course a joy to receive and in true Danni style it was wrapped with love, care and washi tape...all things that make the world go round.

What did I order:
Yellow Packaging Set (some items pictured above)
Yellow phrase vinyl decal

Was the postage expensive to South Africa?
No - I don't think so.  It was $5 in total.

How long did it take to get to South Africa?
I ordered on the 18 January and received it on the 14th February.  I did however, order while Danni was away at Alt. Summt.

Was it worth it?
Totally!  The package was wrapped so beautifully and the items inside were exactly what was pictured on the shop site.  I will definitely order from Danni again and can highly recommend her amazing products.

Was I worried that my package would not get here?
I think living in South Africa this is always a concern.  I take my hat off to our post office as so far all my packages from overseas have arrived in tact without any sign of tampering or damage.  The package was sent in a padded, well sealed envelope with clear address details.

How did I pay?
I used my PayPal account which is linked to my credit card so my details were safe.

Danni has two other shops - one on Etsy and a clothing and accessories one called Reverie Market.

I hope you find these little reviews helpful.  I know as South Africans we often hesitate to order online, but so far so good for all I have ordered off Etsy and a couple of other online shops.

P.S:  so excited to be taking part in the Shop Swap! Will share my packages with you.

Spread the love - a giveaway for you!

Woodnewz sell their boards at I heart Market every month or directly from their workshop (Durban North) which is open Monday to Saturday.  The boards are made from off-cuts which are generated when wood is cut for bigger furniture pieces.  Usually these pieces are wasted, but Daniel (my  husband) and Thinus (my dad) have decided to create something new out of them.  There are loads of cool shapes including long baguette boards, squares, ovals, circles...you get it!  They make the perfect gift for anyone especially if you package it up with something like biltong or a cool knife. Get in touch with them to buy a board via email.

I am spreading the love for Valentine's Day and giving away one of these wonderful boards created by the gents from Woodnewz!  All you have to do is follow their blog OR follow them on Facebook or Twitter.  For an extra entry you can tweet about the giveaway.  Lastly... please leave me a comment and tell me what you would serve on this delightful, handcrafted board!  *we have to keep this one local so sorry faraway friends.  Looking forward to your comments!

Working with 100%

I am currently working with 100% a really cool and fun shop here in Durban (Gateway - near Cinema Nouveau).  I have loved popping into the shop and trying to take in all the colourful and quirky items which are stacked to the ceiling.  I must say... that the stationery is my *absolute* favourite!  I have stocked up on loads of pens as well as some cute tape!  I created the 100% blog and I am guest posting for them so I would love and appreciate it if you visit the blog!  I also have some sweet stationery to giveaway so watch this space.  They are also currently having a 50% sale which means you can get double as much!

Last week Lauren and I spent far too much time - in the shop drooling over all the pretty things we wanted!  Thanks to her for the snaps!

A really good read

I came across vmac+cheese the other day - a truly amazing blog.  The layout, the cool features, the topics and to make it even better Victoria shares her knowledge on blogging, community and general useful stuff us bloggers need to know - especially useful if you run your blog as part of your business.  What also makes it worth its weight in gold is that Victoria is a lovely person and I rather like reading blogs by people who live out their passion, but also share, give and are approachable.  Enough from me - visit her blog for a visual treat and an inspiring read.

Posts I love:
Alt. Recap (okay all the posts in the the Mini Alt Week batch)
Blog Tip of the day on image crediting with a great tool to help you

Just passing by...

A very quick snap taken by Casey at an early morning breakfast this week.  Random, but I really enjoyed wearing this outfit.

What did I wear?
Shirt:  Urban Men's Shirt - fits better than ladies version
Jeans:  JayJays
Shoes:  Amanda Laird Cherry
Bag:  Vintage from Bonnie & Clyde (behind Corner Cafe)
Glasses:  Miss Sixty
Bow Tie:  I made it

Really enjoying wearing my hair in a bun at the moment - the higher the better!  Also - how cute is the red car or what would I call it...truck?

Wishing you a happy weekend & remember I heart Market tomorrow.  I will have some SALE items available.

Over there...

So...things are a bit manic at the moment (um...when are they not) and so I am not blogging as much as I should be, but while I am searching for inspiration I might do a quick pin or tumble here and there so you can also check out out my Pinterest or Tumblr for pretty things that I come across.  Hope to get back to some interesting and cool posts soon!
